Education for Work Force Readiness (K-12)
More than one-third of Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation's philanthropy has been focused on funding education, an investment in tomorrow's work force. By releasing the potential in people, we are preparing future leaders and innovators.
Expanding its commitment to education, the foundation is dedicating resources to support K-12 education that fosters work force readiness in the priority areas of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Supporting work force readiness helps ensure that K-12 students are better prepared for a successful work life after high school graduation. The future work force requires an education that not only builds strong basic skills in core subjects like reading, writing, mathematics and science, but also encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, innovation and much more. Whether a high school student goes on to college or the world of work, these skills are essential to success.
We will consider requests from schools, school districts or organizations that directly impact STEM skill development of K-12 students. In considering requests, our K-12 work force readiness grants will concentrate on STEM disciplines focused on student and teacher learning to improve student academic achievement. We are looking for projects that solve problems, create, innovate and lead in science, technology, engineering and math. Priority will be given to projects that meet the needs of a broader student population versus individuals or selected groups, and are sustainable over time.
